ANDERSON — Prosecutors filed charges of child molestation and sexual misconduct with a minor on Wednesday against a Muncie man accused of inappropriately touching a girl.
Along with sexual misconduct and child molestation, Charles V. Nute Jr., 48, was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of child solicitation. The most serious charge, sexual misconduct, is punishable by six to 20 years behind bars if convicted.
According to court documents:
The now-17-year-old girl told Pendleton investigators the inappropriate contact began when she was 8 or 9 and continued until 2007.
The allegations surfaced after the girl told her boyfriend and authorities were eventually notified.
The Herald Bulletin generally doesn’t reveal the identity of those suspected of being the victim of a sex crime.
Nute denied the allegations when questioned by investigators. Jail records indicate that he is a Muncie resident, but he lives in Greenwood according to a probable cause affidavit.
Nute was being held in the Madison County Jail on $20,000 bond late Wednesday.
