STONY CREEK TOWNSHIP — A church caught fire west of Anderson on Wednesday after a two-vehicle collision sent a car crashing into the building.
Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said the two vehicles collided at the intersection of County Road 200 South and Layton Road where Anderson and Stony Creek townships meet. The accident happened around 7:30 a.m.
Richardson said Gregory K. Scott, 60, of Anderson, was traveling southbound on Layton Road in a 2000 Mercedes when he struck a black 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse that was westbound on 200 South. Joshua R. Smith, 23, of Anderson, was behind the wheel of the second vehicle, and his passenger was Terrence R. Hutchison III, 20, of Anderson. The Mercedes then struck a wall on the north side of Bethel United Methodist Church, which is on the southwest corner. All three men were transported to St. John's Hospital in Anderson.
