Second arrest made in salon robbery

By Shawn McGrath, Herald Bulletin Staff Writer

ANDERSON — Police have arrested a second man suspected of being involved in the December holdup of an Anderson beauty salon.

Prosecutors charged Gerell D. McCloud on Wednesday with aiding, inducing or causing armed robbery. The charge is a Class B felony punishable by six to 20 years in prison if convicted.

McCloud was being held on $20,000 bond late Wednesday. He was taken into custody on Tuesday.

According to a probable cause affidavit:

McCloud used his minivan to drive three other men, including Dewayne Fuller, 22, Anderson, to Studio 2, 1601 Arrow Ave., at about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 23.

The day of the robbery, McCloud’s wife was inside the salon. McCloud went into the beauty shop first to retrieve his wife, who is not named in the court documents. Once McCloud’s wife was outside the business, the three other men, wearing masks and armed, then entered.

The men announced the holdup, ordered customers to the ground at gunpoint and then robbed them of cell phones and purses.

A suspect vehicle, not McCloud’s, was stopped not far from the business a few minutes after the robbery. They discovered Fuller in the back seat, along with a mask and a cell phone stolen during the holdup.

McCloud admitted during police questioning on Tuesday to driving the other men to the beauty shop, knowing they were going to rob its patrons.

Fuller pleaded guilty to armed robbery on June 15. The charge is punishable by two to eight years in prison. A plea agreement with prosecutors calls for him to receive the maximum when he is sentenced in July.

Charges of pointing a firearm, criminal confinement and carrying a handgun by a convicted felon were all dismissed as part of the agreement.
