A rural Anderson boy escaped serious injury in a vehicle, bicycle accident at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday evening. According to Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson, Taylor J.. Mangrum, 9, of rural Anderson was attempting to cross Layton Road from Davis Park on his bicycle. He was able to jump from the bike prior to his bicycle being struck by a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser being driven by Courtney A. Barnes, 33, of Anderson. Mangrum was transported to Community Hospital and was later released. Barnes told the investigating officer that she did not see the boy until the last second due to the woods in the park and along Layton Road.
