CHESTERFIELD — The high-pitched scream of fire truck sirens will blend with thumping drums and the drone of trombones belonging to the Highland High School marching band on Friday as the 54th annual Chesterfield Independence Day sets off down Indiana 32.

According to Gayle Hicks of the Town of Chesterfield, 105 separate entries have been scheduled in the parade, not including the fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles slated to lead the march.

The parade will begin at the Skyview Apartments on Skyview Drive along Ind. 32 at end at Plum Street. It is expected to begin at noon and last approximately one hour.

When the parade ends, the fun will march on as both the Chesterfield Christian Church and American Legion have planned fun fairs including free food and games.

The Chesterfield Christian Church fair will begin at 2 p.m. According to Genell Keown of CCC, the event will feature free hot dogs, drinks, music and street dancing for kids. Prizes, including bicycles and a PlayStation 2, will be awarded, in addition to door prizes for all.

The American Legion will hold a similar affair complete with hot dogs, nachos, drinks and games for kids. Adults will get the chance to buy an $8 rib dinner while kids munch on free snacks, compete in games and toss balls at the dunk tank, according to Melissa Couch of the American Legion.
