ANDERSON — Investigators don’t suspect foul play in the death of an Anderson man whose body was discovered in his burning shed early Friday.
Ermal Allen, an investigator with the Madison County Coroner’s Office, said authorities believe the 53-year-old man died of smoke inhalation.
An autopsy was performed Friday at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. The complete autopsy report won’t be complete for about two weeks, when officials have toxicology test results.
Although Allen said investigators are “99.9 percent” sure of the man’s identity, they aren’t releasing his name until that is confirmed Monday through dental records.
“We don’t see any foul play with (his death),” Allen said.
Anderson police Detective Mitch Carroll said city firefighters were called to the man’s home at 2408 E. Sixth St. shortly before 4:30 a.m., after several neighbors reported a shed on fire behind the residence.
Anderson firefighters had the flames quickly under control, but investigators were called to the scene when the man was discovered inside the building, Carroll said in a news release.
Fire officials weren’t available for comment late Friday.
“The actual cause of the fire will depend on the findings of the Anderson Fire Department,” Allen said.
