For The Herald Bulletin

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority awarded $20,000 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits to Alternatives Incorporated for its emergency shelter.

Alternatives Inc. was one of 172 Indiana organizations selected for participation in the program. This is its 11th consecutive year of being successful in securing tax credits.

The Alternatives shelter serves domestic violence victims from Madison, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry and Marion counties.

The Neighborhood Assistance Program is a program first implemented in 1990 to increase local community support for organizations. Individuals or corporations who donate a minimum of $100 to a maximum gift of $50,000 in cash, check, credit card, or stock are eligible for a credit on their Indiana Department of Revenue taxes equaling 50 percent of their gift to Alternatives.

In addition, donations to Alternatives are allowable as charitable contributions on federal tax returns.
