A recently established endowment at South Madison Community Foundation will be used to help deserving Lapel High School graduating seniors fulfill their dreams of attending college. It will also preserve the legacy of longtime educator, Fred St. John, whose passion for education carried beyond his years of teaching.
St. John moved into the South Madison area in 1946. For 38 years, he served as a teacher in the classroom, a 4-H leader on the farm, and a mentor to youth who participated in FFA. He served another 16 years as a member of the Frankton/Lapel Community Schools board after his retirement.
A group of Lapel High School alumni has established a scholarship fund in his honor. The Fred St. John Memorial Scholarship Fund will continue the legacy of a dedicated educator and will continue his commitment to education and the community.
Tax-deductible gifts to the fund may be made to the South Madison Community Foundation, 233 S. Main St., Pendleton, IN 46064. For more information, call the foundation at (765) 778-8444.
