8:37 p.m.: Couple weds at CATS terminal

— ANDERSON — As the trolley pulled into the bus terminal, along with other buses running regular routes, Steve Sells, 51, and Joetta Deck, 47, started preparing for the ride of their lives.
They weren’t at the City of Anderson Transit System bus station to ride the trolley — or any other bus, for that matter.
They were there to get married.
Sells had been driving for CATS for seven months. His new wife, Joetta, would ride the bus with him regularly.
“It’s something different,” she said.
The couple originally planned to wed at a log cabin in Brown County in June. However, Joetta’s father fell ill, and the wedding was postponed. When the opportunity to use the trolley came up, the couple jumped at the idea.
Because of the large crowd, the couple held the ceremony in front of the trolley on Thursday afternoon.
The Western theme they planned for the Brown County wedding was kept and moved to the location.
Joetta, wearing a long, cream-colored lace dress, smiled as she held her soon-to-be-husband’s hand during the ceremony. The groom, wearing a teal and white button-up shirt and black jeans, also smiled.
It was hard to hear the minister as he read the couple the vows. Between a crowd of family and friends and bus engines, the minister’s usually booming voice was heard only by the couple and the witnesses.
As they kissed, Steve and Joetta had to hold onto the Stetson-style hats they wore.
The 15-minute ceremony delayed the trolley route by less than 3 minutes.
“We just want to get it done and get it over with,” Steve Sells said.
Crystal Deck, Joetta’s 14-year-old daughter, said Thursday was “the happiest day of my life.”
