11:43 p.m.: City Council approves COIT

“If you pass this tax, you need to sit down and consider reforming city government,” he said.

Robert Jozwiak, former independent mayoral candidate, also said the city needed to cut back on its spending.

“You haven’t talked about reductions,” he said.

Jozwiak blamed the state legislators for the situation that the local government is in right now.

As he pointed at city attorney and state Senator Tim Lanane, Jozwiak said, “He should be fighting for us, not fighting to tax us more. It’s shameful.”

What’s next: At least one other municipality must pass the tax for it to be enacted. The county auditor will notify each government, and then they have 30 days to vote for the increase.
