ANDERSON - Efforts to close the file on 3225 Columbus Ave. reached a climax on Tuesday, when the owner appeared in court regarding various citations against the property, which has been neglected for at least two decades.
Also listed under 3215 Columbus Ave., owner Dan Ferree has received notice on the property the past three years.
On June 14, 2005, a letter was sent regarding several vehicles on the property — six trailers and a gray four-door automobile — all apearing to be inoperable, according to the Anderson environmental nuisance control division.
In August 2006, the property was cited for excessive vegetation, inoperable vehicles and debris, but no action was followed up.
Most recently, the property was written up on May 15 for the same violatons, resulting in an Aug. 13 court date. After Ferree failed to appear, the property was cited, and an additional court date was set this past Tuesday.
At that time, Ferree was given until Sept. 30 to address the majority of the violations. He allegedly requested 45 to 60 days to complete work on the property; however, the judge declined such an agreement and instead opted for an additional 30-day window if the majority of violations were addressed by the next court date.
If the property is not adequately maintained by Sept. 30, a $75 fine will be assessed each day after until it comes to compliance. Currently, Ferree has been charged only with $114 in court costs from Tuesday’s proceedings.
