SHELBYVILLE — A former Anderson resident was struck and killed by a vehicle as she walked along Interstate 74 near St. Paul.

Sarah Connelly, 30, of Indianapolis and an Anderson High School graduate, was thrown after being struck by a car that was exiting the interstate at the 123-mile marker on Saturday, said Shelby County Sheriff’s Lt. Travis Maloney.

The car was driven by Twyla Tanner, 23 of St. Paul, who was reportedly returning home from work when the 10:32 p.m. accident was reported. No charges have been filed in the accident.

Maloney said that Connelly had been at a St. Paul residence when she left and started walking. He said Connelly was walking in the middle of the roadway near a spot where the exit veered from the interstate.

“As for why she was on I-74, whether it was the only way she knew how to get to Indianapolis or whether she was waiting on a ride, we can’t speculate,” Maloney said.
