Ashley training at Camp Atterbury

Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Deanna M. Ashley has arrived at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind., as a member of the 38th Infantry Division's Task Force Cyclone to complete mobilization training for a future deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  The 38th Infantry Division is an Army National Guard division based in Indianapolis.

Task Force Cyclone's mission is to provide assistance to the Afghan government in security, construction, economic and agricultural support in assigned areas of operations.  They will also facilitate the reception, training, housing, and sustainment of U.S. troops entering the country.

While at the training center, soldiers work on individual training, weapons qualifications, driver's training, medical training, Humvee rollover training, and performed other training tasks in preparation for the future deployment.

Ashley is an administration noncommissioned officer in charge has served in the military for 14 years.

She is the daughter of Diane C. and David R. Ashley of Markleville.

The sergeant graduated in 1994 from Pendleton High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in 2000 from Ball State University.

Rhone completes basic

Air Force Airman Lionel Rhone graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He earned distinction as an honor graduate

The airman is the son of Kathy Rhone of Anderson, and is a 2005 graduate of Highland High School.
