ANDERSON — The first Madison County Season of Giving Gift Fair is set to take place Saturday at Reardon Auditorium.
The event is a project of the Leadership Academy of Madison County and gives shoppers a chance to make holiday-time donations to local charities for between $10 and $50 to honor family members and friends.
The charities will be able to explain what the money will help fund, for example school supplies or a meal for a family. The donations are also being partially matched by Hoosier Park.
“It’s a totally different kind of gift giving,” event committee member Carol Overdorf has said.
Everyone has someone on their holiday gift list who is hard to shop for, she said. “Why not get them something that has a lot of meaning and also supports a charity. And they’ll have specifics about what that donation will go toward, and they’ll have some information about that nonprofit.”
Shoppers will receive personalized cards to deliver to the person they’re honoring with a donation. Participating local charities are Alternative Inc., The Hopewell Center, Madison County Humane Society, Second Harvest Food Bank, LifeStream Services, Dove Harbor, Children of Promise, Born Learning, Madison County Literacy Coalition, National Alliance on Mental Illness of Madison County, Character Counts, Habitat for Humanity, the Leadership Academy of Madison County and Lutheran Disability Ministries.
