Driver hits rear of school bus, one student treated by school nurse

Car driver taken to hospital

ANDERSON, Ind. —

A woman who rear-ended an Anderson Community Schools bus Tuesday morning told police the sun was in her eyes, distracting her.

Betty Golday, 44, of Anderson, was transported to St. Vincent Anderson and treated for minor injuries related to her vehicle collision with the bus on Lindberg Road near Rolling Hills Drive.

According to Anderson Police Department spokesman Joel Sandefur, Golday was headed east on Lindberg Road when the 1999 Mercury Sable she was driving slammed into the back of the 1998 Chevrolet 15-passenger school bus driven by Nancy Perry-Brough, 46, of Anderson. The bus, which was also headed east from the intersection, was in the process of accelerating from a stop when the collision occurred.

ACS Director of Transportation Joe Cronk said there were just five students on the bus headed to Valley Grove Elementary.

He noted that those students were about 50 minutes late to school and examined by the school nurse when they arrived.

"Accidents are not frequent occurrences," Cronk said. "We see a few each year, and most are very minor."

Nobody else appeared to be injured at the scene, but a 7-year-old boy who was knocked to the bus floor by the impact of the collision complained of should pain later in the day at school. He was treated by the school nurse.
