Mounds to offer marshmallows, luminaria hikes

ANDERSON — Tonight, Mounds State Park will offer evening programs with park naturalists to celebrate the New Year.

At 6 p.m., visitors can roast their first marshmallow of the year outside the visitors center. Following that, participants can depart on their first hike of the year.

The naturalists will have two easy hikes leaving the visitors center at 7 and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Both hikes will be the same and will take participants to the Great Mound via a path lit with luminarias. During the hikes, the naturalists will step back in time.

“We’ll share tidbits of park history with folks as we stroll along the illuminated trail,” said interpretive naturalist Jessica Rosier.

The event is free and there is no entrance fee.

Mounds State Park is at 4306 Mounds Road.
