ALEXANDRIA, Ind. —
Prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against a 20-year-old man accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl.
William A. McPhearson, 20, of Alexandria, faces felony charges of child molesting and child solicitation on suspicion of maintaining a sexual relationship over the past month with a girl he met on Facebook, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Detectives looked into the case after the girl turned up missing from her parents’ home very late Jan. 11 and returned the morning of Jan. 12. McPhearson was reportedly driving the girl to and from his parents’ home, according to the affidavit.
The girl was reported as a runaway by her parents that night.
During an interview, police examined the girl’s cellphone and found explicit text messages and pornographic pictures sent from McPhearson’s phone to hers, according to the affidavit.
She first told police in an interview that McPhearson was 15 years old. McPhearson told police he had never met the girl or sent any photos to her. The girl later told police she knew McPhearson was 20 and he knew she was 12, according to the affidavit.
She told police she met McPhearson at a grocery store on Dec. 24, and the first time they had sexual contact was Jan. 7, according to the affidavit.
McPhearson pleaded guilty to domestic battery in January 2012 for an incident in March 2011. After pleading guilty, McPhearson was placed on probation on the condition that he obtain a General Education Diploma, participate in a Batterer’s Intervention Program and abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs, according to public record.
In October, McPhearson was arrested on suspicion of violating probation after testing positive for marijuana, according to public record.
