Specialty plate proposed legislation: Local comment

ANDERSON, Ind. — If the proposed specialty license plate legislation were to pass, it would have an effect locally on entities like Anderson University.

Director of Communications Chris Williams said the university currently has a program in place where alumni may purchase school plates with the AU logo on them from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

“Proceeds support a mixture of initiatives, including alumni programs, both on and off campus, as well as scholarship support,” he said.

With the proposed legislation, all of that money would have to go to scholarships. Williams said AU would most certainly follow the rules and make needed changes.

“We would have to do some amount of adjustments to our activities if legislation were to pass,” he said.
