Details emerge on child molestation arrests

Two Anderson men charged in separate reports

ANDERSON, Ind. — Details about the arrests of two Anderson men on child molestation charges have been released by the Madison County prosecutor.

Anderson police arrested Kenneth D. Cannon, 53, of the 2300 block of Chase Street, Anderson, at 5:17 p.m. Friday at his home. Bond was set for $20,000 on three counts of Class A felony child molest and one count of Class D felony child molest. Records show the alleged victim was 12 at the time of the reported incident. According to the probable cause report, the 12-year-old girl reported in December that the abuse had been going on for about three years at Cannon’s home.

The girl said Cannon had inappropriately touched her at least 100 times both on her chest and her genitals. The girl told police the alleged molestation began around June 2006 and continued until the time she reported it to police, according to the probable cause report.

Cannon is a convicted sex offender, and is on the state’s offender registry for child molestation and sexual misconduct with a minor, according to the report.

Madison County deputies arrested Steven D. Doty, 42, of the 1100 block of County Road East 400 North, Anderson, at 6:30 p.m. Friday at his home. Bond was set for $50,000 on charges of three counts of Class A felony child molest and two counts Class C felony child molest.

The alleged victims were a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. The incidents reportedly occurred between May and June 2008 and March and August 2009.

According to the probable cause report in Doty’s arrest, the parents of a now 21-year-old man told police that Doty had inappropriately touched his genitals when he was 12 and also forced the boy to touch Doty. He said the incident occurred at Doty’s Summitville home when Doty had asked the boy to go upstairs and look at a video he’d bought, according to the report.

The man told police there had been other incidents when Doty had touched him inappropriately when he was a boy.

When police went to talk to Doty in 2008 they found him inside the hotel room he’d been staying in with a 7-year-old girl. Eventually the girl told police that on several occasions Doty had inappropriately touched her both in the hotel room and in the hotel’s pool, according to the report.

The parents in both incidents said they trusted Doty alone with their children and described him as a good family friend, according to the report.
