Pack to bring legendary P.T. Barnum to life

PENDLETON, Ind. — One of the most popular programs ever hosted by the Pendleton Community Public Library was last year’s Houdini re-enactment, performed by William Pack.

The library will once again welcome Pack as he brings another entertainment legend to life: P.T. Barnum.

Showman P.T. Barnum was a businessman, entertainer and scam artist known for promoting hoaxes through the wildly popular Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus. Barnum also ran a museum filled with exhibits and attractions that were curious, wondrous and odd. He justified promoting curiosities such as Feejee mermaid and Tom Thumb by saying, “I don’t believe in duping the public, but I believe in first attracting and then pleasing them.”

Pack uses the arts of storytelling and re-enactment to weave a fascinating narrative of P.T. Barnum, according to a press release. He invites the audience to hear the life lessons that shaped this gret American showman, meet the extraordinary people who changed his life, and experience the wonders of Barnum’s American museum.

“The Essential P.T. Barnum” will be presented at Pendleton Community Public Library on Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m.
