Anderson man arrested on attempted murder charge

PETERSBURG, Ind. — An Anderson man wanted for attempted murder has been captured in Petersburg.

Friday morning, Indiana State Police arrested Darius A. Hardiman, 21, of Anderson, on charges he tried to kill Antonio McMullen, 26, on March 17 in Anderson. According to Anderson Police Lt. Paul Boulware, that charge was the result of a failed business deal, which ended in Hardiman firing two gunshots at McMullen.

Hardiman fled, and APD requested help finding him from the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force and Indiana State Police, and notifying area law enforcement on Wednesday that he might be in Evansville.

Thursday night, police received information Hardiman was at a hotel owned by his family in Petersburg, Ind., about 50 miles north of Evansville. Over 20 officers from the Indiana State Police, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Petersburg Police and Washington Police arrived to search for Hardiman.

At 6:30 a.m. Friday morning, trooper Justin Bean spotted Hardiman “hiding in thick brush” behind the Kangaroo Express gas station off Indiana 57 on the city’s north side, according to a press release.

Hardiman was arrested without incident and taken to the Pike County Jail. Boulware said APD will pick him up Monday and bring him back to Anderson, where he’ll stand trial.

An initial arraignment hasn’t been scheduled, but should take place next week, Boulware said.
