Saturday shooting victim recovering

Alleged shooter being held on $100,000 bond

ANDERSON, Ind. — A 37-year-old Anderson man shot early Saturday morning outside Sonny Ray’s Bar continues to recover at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, police said.

Orlando D. Blount was shot in the neck near his shoulder about 2 a.m. outside the bar in the 1500 block of Madison Avenue, according to Anderson police.

Blount’s alleged assailant, Alphonso Graves, 47, of Anderson, is currently being held on $100,000 bond at the Madison County Jail. He was charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a uniformed officer and a deputy prosecuting attorney were watching the bar and witnessed the incident.

They told detectives that Graves was working as a bouncer at Sonny Ray’s and got into a physical scuffle with Blount while trying to remove him from the bar.

The witnesses said they watched Graves push Blount out of the building and onto the sidewalk, walk up to Blount and shoot him with a handgun.

Graves was quickly arrested after the shooting. He told police he was fighting with Blount, but denied having or firing a handgun, according to the affidavit.
