---- — ANDERSON — Officials raided three health clinics in Madison County on Tuesday as part of an investigation into possible over-prescribing of patients and Medicaid fraud.

According to a press release from Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller's office, the Madison County Community Health Centers in Anderson, Elwood and Alexandria were searched for evidence by a joint investigation team from the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Anderson Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Department and Madison County Prosecutor's Office.

The raid comes three weeks after the attorney general filed a six-count complaint against Dr. Frank Campbell, medical director of the Madison County Community Health Center, alleging he violated state law by allowing physician assistants to prescribe pain medicine to patients.

The complaint was filed with the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana, and follows an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration that began in early May.

Anthony J. Malone, president and CEO of the centers, ended a phone conversation with the Herald Bulletin on Tuesday but confirmed the warranted search was a continuation of the investigation into Campbell.

No additional charges have been filed and the review of items collected from the raid is ongoing, according to the release.

On Tuesday, nobody answered phone calls to the Anderson location at 1547 Ohio Ave. or the Elwood location at 1518 Main St., but the release indicated the offices were closed Tuesday. The clinics are expected to reopen today and patients whose appointments were canceled can call the offices to reschedule.

Investigators ask that anyone with information to report about the medical offices contact Investigator Damon Grove of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit at 765-281-2666.
