Mounds State Park set for Pioneer Day

ANDERSON — Step back to the late 1800s at Mounds State Park, 4306 Mounds Road, at the annual Pioneer Day on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the historic Bronnenberg home. Scheduled demonstrations include flint knapping with expert John Suko at 11 a.m., and Dutch oven cooking with assistant property manager Dustin Clark at 1 p.m.

Stop by anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to tour the Bronnenberg home, sample popcorn made over a fire, and view antique tools and bicycle collector Rex Upshaw’s 1880s' Columbia High Wheeler. Kids activities include butter making, yarn doll crafts, pioneer dress-up and old-fashioned chores such as laundry and lawn mowing.

The Friends of Mounds State Park group will be selling drinks and souvenirs.
