Applications due for Black Expo Parade

ANDERSON — The Anderson Black Expo Parade will be Saturday, Aug. 6. Bands, drill teams, organizations, companies, clowns, individuals and show cars and trucks are welcome.

The parade will begin at noon at the old Kmart parking lot on Nichol Avenue, with registration at 10 a.m. All units are required to submit an application by Aug. 3. Entry fee is $20 and late fee is $10.

Free seminar discusses joint pain

MUNCIE — Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital and Central Indiana Orthopedics are hosting a free seminar on joint pain at 6 p.m. today.

Orthopedic surgeon Marshall Trusler will talk about shoulder pain and strategies to decrease and eliminate joint pain. For information, call 741-1073 or (800) 237-9625.

Crop enrollment deadline is Aug. 1

INDIANAPOLIS —  Julia A. Wickard, executive director of USDA’s Indiana Farm Service Agency, reminds producers that Aug. 1 is the last day FSA county offices may accept and approve Direct and Counter-cyclical Program and Average Crop Revenue Election Program contracts for crop year 2011.

Autism awareness fundraiser scheduled

PENDLETON — The first Autism Fundraiser & Service Awareness program is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, in Falls Park at the shelter house by the playground.

Funds will be raised for Autism Speaks through the sale of Autism Awareness merchandise, hot dogs, chips, bottled water and baked goods.

These organizations will offer information about their services: Easter Seals Crossroads, Hopewell Center/First Steps, FUSE, ARC of Indiana, About Special Kids, IN SOURCE and Lagoni Chiropractic.

Adult/GED classes offered at library

PENDLETON — Adult Basic Education/GED classes are being offered at the Pendleton Community Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The courses, offered through the Anderson Community School Corp. ABE/GED program, are intended for anyone seeking a GED or in need of improving basic skills.

Health Center plans annual barbecue

ANDERSON — The Madison County Community Health Center, 1547 Ohio Ave., is having its annual Backyard BBQ from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5.

The all-ages event will include food, music and other entertainment. Information on health screenings will be available, and freewill donations will be accepted. For information, call Teresa at 641-0255, ext. 256.
