Spring delivering a winter punch

ANDERSON, Ind. — Remember when it was actually warm in spring?

The National Weather Service has another winter weather advisory, that Madison County could see between 5 to 9 inches of snow accumulation between 8 a.m. Sunday and noon Monday.

According to the weather service, the return to wintry conditions is the result of a low pressure system moving northeast from the Tennessee Valley to the Ohio Valley, which would result in “a significant snowstorm for the region.”

Following a drop from Saturday's high of 46 degrees, the snow is expected to begin in the wee hours of Sunday in central Indiana, with the greatest accumulation happening late Sunday afternoon and evening. Madison County’s expected to be in for a double-whammy, since the snow will be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.

When the winds combine with the heavy, wet snow, it may cause localized power outages and reduced viability, the weather service said.

Since there’s no way to predict the storm’s exact impact, state and county emergency management services are on standby, said Madison County Emergency Management Agency spokesman Todd Harmeson.

He said Indiana’s highway department has put liquid brine on the state roads, and the county has trucks ready to go when and if they’re needed.

“Right now, all we can do is wait and see,” he said.
