Coats accepting applications for nomination to academies

INDIANAPOLIS – U.S. Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., announced that he is accepting applications for nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and U.S. Military Academy.

Applicants must submit the completed application packet available at www.coats.senate.gov by Nov.1.

Applicants may apply for and receive nominations from both their U.S. representative and their two U.S. senators. Applicants may also apply to the vice president of the United States, who can nominate applicants at large.

Candidates must meet the following requirements as of July 1 of the year of admission to a military academy:

u Must be at least 17, but not have passed their 23rd birthday.

u Must be a U.S. citizen.

u Must be a legal resident of Indiana.

u Must be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.
