Jozwiak running against Lanane in state Senate race

Libertarian candidate's 4th campaign since 2007

ANDERSON – The Libertarian Party will have candidates for two local races in the Indiana Legislature and for the 5th Congressional District.

The three candidates all filed with the Indiana Secretary of State’s office on July 2, just one day prior to the deadline for the Nov. 4 general election.

Robert Jozwiak filed to run against incumbent Democrat Tim Lanane for the 25th District seat in the Indiana Senate.

For Jozwiak, this is his fourth campaign since 2007. He ran as an independent in 2007 and 2011 for mayor of Anderson and as a Libertarian Party candidate in 2008 and 2010 for the District 37 seat in the Indiana House against Democrat Scott Reske.

Greg Noland, chairman of the Libertarian Party in Madison County, said Jozwiak approached the party about running for the District 25 seat.

“He’s very Libertarian minded and runs an excellent campaign,” Noland said.

The party planned to have Jozwiak file with the Secretary of State’s office just before the close of filing.

“It was planned,” Noland said. “We wanted to wait until the last minute to keep it a two-way race.”

Lanane said he was a little surprised to have an opponent because he hadn’t heard about a third-party candidate as a possibility. No Republican is on the ballot for this year's Senate race.

“I’ve always had an opponent,” Lanane said.

Lanane said he planned to take part in campaign activities this fall even if he didn’t have an opponent.

Libertarian Ben Parker is running against incumbent Republican Robert Cherry for the District 53 seat in the Indiana House, which includes portions of southwestern Madison County.

John Krom has filed as the Libertarian Party candidate in the 5th Congressional District, which includes all of Madison County, against incumbent Republican Susan Brooks and Democrat Shawn Denney.

Announcement was made last week of six other Libertarian candidates in Madison County races for sheriff, commissioner, county council and the Anderson and Fall Creek township advisory boards.
