One-vehicle accident leaves car in ditch, injures passenger

ANDERSON, Ind. — A one-car accident Friday afternoon injured a passenger and left the car in an embankment below the road.

According to driver Robert Soloman, 28, of Anderson, an animal darted in front of his white 2004 Oldsmobile Alero on Alexandria Pike near Cross Street and the Aqua Gardens at about 1 p.m. Soloman swerved into oncoming traffic near a bridge and his vehicle flew into the embankment, causing major damage to the front end. Officers believe the vehicle drove directly off the road without hitting any barriers or bridge supports.

Soloman refused medical attention, but passenger Jennifer Clary, 30, of Anderson needed to be extracted from the car by rescue crews and transported to Anderson Community Hospital. According to police reports, Clary suffered a possible foot fracture, but her condition wasn't serious.

The investigating officer reported Soloman was traveling within the posted speed limit and he and Clary both had their seatbelts on when the automobile's airbags deployed.

Members of the Madison County Emergency Management Agency assisted Anderson Police Department officers at the scene and closed the road for several hours while crews removed the vehicle from the ditch.
