Anderson police find man's body after child reports seeing it

No ID found; autopsy scheduled Friday

ANDERSON, Ind. —  Police were treating the investigation of a body discovered on the side of a road Thursday night as a homicide.

The body, described by Anderson Police Department spokesman Paul Boulware as male, black and age 25 to 35, was found hidden among some debris off Anderson-Frankton Road in a rural area of the city’s northwest side.

No identification was found and police had not determined a cause of death by press time.

“We don’t know a lot right now, the scene is still very active, but it looks like the body was placed there,” Anderson Police Chief Larry Crenshaw said.

The body was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, said Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay. She said the autopsy with a forensic pathologist will be performed today, and more information will be available then.

Police arrived at the site to investigate about 7:30 p.m., but Crenshaw said he believes the body had been there at least a day. A young girl apparently saw the body on Wednesday and told her father about it. When she told him about it again on Thursday afternoon, he went out to see for himself. When he found the body, he called police.

Boulware said the department was in the very early stages of the investigation, and that he hoped detectives would have an identification and cause of death by this morning.

A portion of the road from the Gun Barn Road intersection to the Moss Island Road bend was closed off by Madison County Emergency Management Agency volunteers for about two hours as investigators canvassed the area.

No suspects had been identified yet, Boulware said.
