Pipe bomb dismantled on Alexandria Pike is second of 2013

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Department discovered a pipe bomb on Alexandria Pike Thursday afternoon, the second occurrence of a pipe bomb found on that road in 2013.

A bomb team from Delaware County assisted in detonating the device, which was found by a homeowner who was doing some spring cleaning on his property. The man found the 8-inch bomb in a ditch near the intersection of County Road 360 North, said Sheriff’s Department Maj. Brian Bell.

A similar device was found on the same stretch of Alexandria Pike on Jan. 12.

“We’re almost certain it was made by the same person who made the last one,” Bell said. “The same people from the Delaware County bomb squad worked with us last time and they said the materials are almost identical.”

Bell said he couldn’t speculate on the destructive power of the bomb, but he said it could have been harmful to anyone nearby if detonated. He also said the Sheriff’s Department wants assistance from anyone in that neighborhood who has seen suspicious activity.

“It’s definitely a concern, and we’re hoping we can get some help from the public,” Bell said.

Bell said anyone with information is encouraged to call Madison County Dispatch at 642-0221 and ask for Detective Doug Beltz.
