Celebrity waiter fundraiser today

ANDERSON — Garfield’s Restaurant at the Mounds Mall will be the site of a “celebrity waiter” fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The “celebrities” will compete against each other for donations, including raffle tickets, Roulette Karaoke and auctions.

John’s Hope Foundation will receive a portion of all sales. All other donations will go directly to the foundation to assist children who struggle with emotional and functional wellness.

MLK scholarship luncheon Saturday

ANDERSON — The 25th annual scholarship awards luncheon, sponsored by the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Commission, is set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Madison Park Church of God, 67th Street and Columbus Avenue.

African-American students from Anderson High School, Highland Middle School, Anderson Preparatory Academy and Liberty Christian School will be recognized.

Tickets are $25 for adults over the age of 14; reserve in advance and pay at door. Reserve tickets by calling 644-3953 or 617-5580. Walk-ins welcome, but advance notice appreciated. The public is invited.

Daleville festival meeting this evening

DALEVILLE — There will be a Daleville AutumnFest community / volunteer informational meeting at 7 p.m. this evening at Daleville Town Hall.

Anyone who is interested and has invested in the festival is encouraged to attend this meeting. Volunteers are needed.

Everyone’s input is valued and needed to ensure the future and success of the festival, organizers said.

River group to host panel

CHESTERFIELD — Heart of the River, a citizens group that wants to maintain the White River as a free-flowing natural public resource, is sponsoring a Panel Discussion of Concern about the plan to dam the river and create a 7-mile reservoir behind it.

On Monday at the Millcreek Civic Center in Chesterfield from 6 to 8:30 p.m., a panel of experts will question the need for a dam and will present their concerns about the plan.
