Police: Wanted man left accident scene, resisted, used drugs

ANDERSON, Ind. — A wanted man was caught by police after allegedly trying to run from the scene of a traffic collision, had to be tasered and was found in a hospital bathroom trying to swallow pills Thursday afternoon.

Timothy C. Jackson, 23, of Anderson, faces charges of resisting law enforcement and possession of a controlled substance and was transported to Madison County Jail on $5,000 bond Thursday night, according to Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson.

Jackson’s misfortunes began at about 3:30 p.m., when police suspect he tried to walk away from the scene of a two-vehicle collision near Eighth Street and Central Avenue. Richardson said Jackson, who was wanted for contempt of court, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Witnesses told police they saw the suspect head south on foot. Madison County Sheriff’s deputies fanned out from the collision scene and saw Jackson walking near an intersection on Ninth Street. Jackson allegedly ran when they tried to stop him for questioning.

Anderson Police Department officers joined in the hunt, and eventually subdued Jackson by using a taser.

Jackson was then transported to St. Vincent Hospital Anderson to be treated for taser-related injuries. While in at hospital, deputies said they caught Jackson in a restroom trying to swallow Clonazepam muscle relaxers.

Richardson said Jackson received a few cuts and bruises from the incident but wasn’t seriously hurt by the taser.

Jackson pleaded guilty to charges of illegal possession of a handgun and possession of marijuana from a 2012 incident. Jackson was referred to drug court for the charges, but a warrant for his arrest was issued when he didn’t appear for drug court on April 23.
