Child advocate awards go to Kaye, Webb, Napier

ANDERSON — The East Central Indiana CASA Inc. program will host a dinner on Sept. 30 at Hoosier Park to present the Judge Jack Brinkman Child Advocate Award.

The 2013 award recipients of the Child Advocate Award are Jan Kaye, director of special services at Elwood Community School Corp.; Tami Napier, chief deputy prosecutor for Hancock County; and Debbie Webb with the Anderson Rotary Club.

These three individuals were selected by the CASA program in appreciation for their outstanding service, work and commitment on behalf to the children of east central Indiana.

The Judge Jack Brinkman Child Advocate Award was established in 2010 by East Central Indiana CASA to honor citizens who have made significant contributions to their community on behalf of children. East Central Indiana CASA chose to name this award after Judge Jack Brinkman, who retired after serving 30 years as Madison Superior Court 2 judge.

During his time on the bench, Brinkman founded and administered the Madison County Youth Center, and established the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program in Madison County in 1987. Brinkman has continued to serve as an advocate for CASA, and has assisted other counties in establishing their own CASA programs, including collaborating with judges in neighboring counties to establish functioning satellite offices to share knowledge, staff and resources. Brinkman also served as a member of the Indiana Supreme Court Guardian Ad-Litem and CASA advisory board.

CASA will also honor the 2013 Volunteer of the Year recipients. Connie Purcell of New Palestine will be honored for her work as a child advocate in Hancock County, and Shannon Benedict of Pendleton will be recognized for her work as a child advocate in Madison County.

Platinum sponsors for the Champions for Children event are: St. Vincent Regional Hospital of Anderson, Community Hospital of Anderson, Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, Mustin Builders and Prairie Farms.

CASA believes that every child has the right to a safe, permanent home. CASA is a national volunteer organization that equips and supervises volunteers who provide hundreds of neglected, abused, and exploited children with a voice and friend in the court process.

Tickets can be purchased now until Sept. 23. To learn more about the annual awards dinner, or to purchase tickets to attend the dinner, call the CASA office at 649-7215 or (317) 477-0034.
