Woman arrested after head-on collision

Five taken to the hospital

MARKLEVILLE, Ind. — An Anderson woman was arrested, police said, after allegedly causing a head-on collision while intoxicated.

The accident happened in the 2300 block of East Indiana 236 around 6:30 p.m. Monday, and five were transported to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Maj. Brian Bell of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Leslie E. Wynn, 24, of Anderson, was arrested on preliminary charges of Class D felonies operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction and neglect of a dependent.

Bell said she blew a 0.23 blood alcohol content level at the hospital — nearly three times the legal limit.

According to Bell, Wynn was driving a 2002 Dodge caravan east on Indiana 236 when she went completely left of center into the path of Troy Hinshaw, 54, of Middletown, who was heading west.

Hinshaw, driving a 2001 Dodge ram, swerved left to avoid a collision, but Wynn drove back into the eastbound lane and struck him head-on, he said.

Wynn had bruises and lacerations. Elizabeth Sczensy, 37, a passenger in her car, had a dislocated hip, bruises and lacerations while back-seat passengers Kolton Brown, 3, and Lucie Courtney, 1, both had minor bruising, Bell said.

Hinshaw had bruises and complained of back pain.
