---- — PENDLETON — A man accused of raping a woman Wednesday night was released on bond Thursday afternoon.

Eric W. Derolf, 35, posted bail of $20,000 on charges of rape, a Class B felony, and a lesser felony charge of criminal confinement in connection with an incident early Wednesday morning. Madison County Jail records indicate he was released at about 4:30 p.m.

According to a probable cause affidavit of the alleged attack, a Pendleton woman told police she met up with Derolf to go out for drinks on Tuesday about 8 p.m. The two went to several bars in Pendleton and Anderson, drinking alcohol at each location.

Either late Tuesday or early Wednesday, the woman started to complain to Derolf that she was feeling sick and wanted to go home. He drove her back home to Pendleton, and the two went inside. According to the affidavit, the woman told police that when she fell asleep on her bed, Derolf was watching TV. When she woke up, he was raping her, she alleged.

The woman told police she knew Derolf, but has never been in a romantic relationship with him, and that he’s in a relationship with another woman.

Pendleton Chief of Police Marc Farrer said there were no indications the woman was the victim of a date-rape drug, and the attack was likely the result of heavy drinking.

“These kind of incidents should remind everyone to be careful when they’re drinking and watch who you’re hanging around with,” Farrer said.
