Local Briefs: July 3

Prenatal program underway at clinic

ANDERSON — The Madison County Community Health Center started a 10-week session Prenatal Centering Program on June 11. The Centering Pregnancy Program is available to pregnant mothers in a group setting. They are part of a Centering Community that includes: taking care of yourself and your child and helping to build healthy communities one group at a time.

The first session dealt with smoking cessation or contact with second-hand smoke. The mothers who smoked agreed to quit. They willingly agreed to complete the Indiana Tobacco Quitline (ITQL) referral forms. Their progress will be monitored at the meetings that follow. The next Centering group session is scheduled for July 9.

Guide Lamp engineers to meet

ANDERSON — Guide Lamp engineers are meeting for breakfast at a new time and new location. Time will be the first Saturday of the month, and start at 8 a.m.

They will meet this Saturday at Golden Corral on Scatterfield Road.

Elks to host Vets Appreciation Day

ANDERSON — On Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m., a Veterans Appreciation Day will be held at the Anderson Elks Lodge 209, 1803 Broadway.

The hog roast that comes with sides is free to all veterans. All non-veterans and public are welcome to attend.

Eagles hall closed for holiday

ANDERSON — The Anderson Eagles Aerie 174, 1315 Meridian St., will be closed Thursday through Saturday for the Independence Day holiday.

It will reopen on Monday with Karaoke by Brad, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Speedway race, fireworks Thursday

ANDERSON — Anderson Speedway will host an Independence Day Figure 8 Madness on Thursday. The gates open at 5 p.m., with racing at 8 p.m. Fireworks will follow the racing program.

Adults, $12; kids 6-12, $4. Children under 5 will be admitted free.

Indy server gets $500 tip

INDIANAPOLIS — A struggling server at an Indianapolis restaurant has received a $500 tip as part of a Kentucky man’s mission to fulfill his late brother’s dying wish.
