Sears is open for business

ANDERSON, Ind. — Sears is officially back in Anderson.

Tuesday afternoon, customers milled around Sears Hometown Store showroom, which just opened in University Plaza, 2015 University Blvd. The building had previously housed the Family Christian Bookstore.

Out front, Reed Whistesel checked under the hood of a red Craftsman riding lawnmower.

“I might have to come back and buy this later,” he said.

Hometown stores — 1,238 of them, around the U.S. and its territories — are smaller than full-fledged stores and mainly sell home improvement goods, such as appliances, tools, fitness gear, lawn and garden equipment and mattresses.
