Free legal advice today at Mounds Mall

ANDERSON, Ind. — Food court is in session.

Mounds Mall, 2109 S. Scatterfield Road, will host its annual ‘Talk to a Lawyer’ day from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Attorneys will be on-hand to give free, brief advice on civil matters, such as those involving disputes between individuals or organizations, where the victim could be awarded compensation.

According to a press release, since most courts are closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., it “gives attorneys an opportunity to give back to the community by providing legal assistance to the underserved.”

The legal advice is free and open to all members of the general public, regardless of income. Generally, there’s a 15-minute limit on consultations, so everyone has a chance to speak with a lawyer. The event is organized by District 6 Access to Justice, in conjunction with the Madison County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indiana Pro Bono Commission.

There will also be a statewide call-in available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. That number is (800) 266-2581, or (800) 279-8772 for Spanish language.
