ANDERSON, Ind. —
Former Indiana Gov. Otis Bowen is known for his overhaul of Indiana’s tax system during his term from 1973 to 1981. Bowen died Saturday at the age of 95.
Madison County Republican Chairman and City Councilman Russ Willis said Bowen was “a fine statesman and person.”
“He served Indiana well,” Willis said. “He had implemented tax reduction plans that were very beneficial to the state.”
While Willis wasn’t as politically active as he is now during Bowen’s time, he recalled it being a “calm, smooth time of government.”
