CHESTERFIELD, Ind. — One person was airlifted following a serious two-vehicle accident in Chesterfield on Saturday.

The accident happened about 12:25 p.m., when a red pickup truck and silver sedan collided on Indiana 32.

The front ends of both vehicles were crushed, and the front bumper of the sedan curled up to touch the car’s windshield.

Fire department, EMS, police and Madison County Emergency Management Agency crews shutdown traffic and worked to free the airlifted person, who was trapped in a vehicle and had to be extricated.

That person, who has not yet been identified, was later transported via PHI medical helicopter to an Indianapolis trauma center, the Chesterfield Union Township Fire Department said.

Three other people were also injured in the accident. They were taken to Anderson hospitals for evaluation.

Traffic on Indiana 32 was rerouted for about two hours between County Road 500 East and the fire station in Chesterfield.
