Flu deaths prompt Marion County hospital limits

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's recent surge in flu-related deaths has prompted Marion County to impose temporary restrictions on who can visit Indianapolis-area hospitals.

The limits announced Friday came as state health officials announced that the number of Indiana influenza deaths this season had jumped to 11, up from three reported a week ago.

Funding plan for Natatorium upgrade draws heat

INDIANAPOLIS — A proposal for Indianapolis to give Indiana University nearly $10 million to help renovate its three-decade-old Natatorium is running in opposition from local Democrats.

City-County Council vice president John Barth says providing IU with $9.5 million to upgrade the swimming and diving complex would be "a hard pill" for Marion County taxpayers to swallow.
