Indiana State Police recovers grenades, ammo at Athletic Park

ANDERSON, Ind. — An Indiana State Police bomb squad went to Athletic Park on Sunday afternoon after grenades and ammunition were discovered.

According to a state police news release, the Anderson Police Department requested the bomb squad after children found five grenades and several rounds of ammunition in a wooded area near the city park near downtown.

The bomb squad responded shortly after 3 p.m. and recovered the grenades and ammunition, which will be disposed of.

The annual Andersontown Powwow and Indian Market was at the park Sunday, but no evacuation was given.

A sweep of the area was completed by the squad and a bomb-sniffing K-9, provided by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.
