Mayor addresses Historical Society
ANDERSON — Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith will be the speaker at the Madison County Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Monday. Smith will be discussing the current status and potential future of the city of Anderson.
His presentation will be held in the Bowman Room of the History Center, 11 W. 11th Street in downtown Anderson and is open to the public at no charge.
Library to hold staff training
ANDERSON — The Anderson Public Library will open at 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, due to staff training.
The library is open 24 hours a day online at www.andersonlibrary.net.
Geico plans 1,200 jobs in Carmel
INDIANAPOLIS — Geico is announcing plans to bring 1,200 jobs to Indiana and pump millions of dollars into developing a campus just north of Indianapolis.
The Washington, D.C.-based insurance company plans to equip a 109,000 square-foot customer service center in Carmel. Geico Chairman Tony Nicely and Gov. Mike Pence announced the plans Monday at the Carmel site.
Pastor: Faith no factor in deaths
NEW ALBANY — A pastor at a southern Indiana church says a parishioner whose wife and two children were found dead in a creek last week doesn’t believe the family’s faith played a part in their deaths.
Pastor J. Todd Nichols of Greater Faith Church in New Albany tells WHAS-TV that the deaths of 35-year-old Jamie Clutter, 10-year-old Brandon Clutter and 6-month-old Katelyn Clutter have been “very grave and painful” for the church.
Man dies of injuries from cruiser crash
SOUTH BEND — A 19-year-old northern Indiana man has died from injuries he suffered when his car collided with an Indiana State Police cruiser.
The South Bend Tribune and WSBT-TV report 19-year-old Robert Perez of Mishawaka died Sunday.
State police said at the time that Perez’s car entered a rural St. Joseph County intersection March 7 and was struck by the cruiser driven by Trooper William Ennis with its siren and emergency lights on. The 32-year-old Ennis suffered a broken ankle.
