LAPEL, Ind. —
A driver who caused a head-on collision that sent two people to the hospital Monday morning did not stop, police said.
The accident happened at 7:01 a.m. near Lapel, on Indiana 32 at Atlantic Road.
Denny S. Stapleton, 33, of Lapel, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier west on Ind. 32, when the red vehicle in front of him turned. Stapleton slammed on his brakes.
When he did, Stapleton slid on the slick roads and lost control of the car, said Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson.
The Cavalier then collided head-on with a 2010 Honda Crossover, driven by Ann L. Silcox, 52, of Noblesville.
The driver of the red vehicle did not stop, Richardson said.
Both Silcox and Stapleton were taken to area hospitals.
Stapleton was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital, where he was seen for pains in his head, neck, chest and right arm.
Silcox was taken by ambulance to Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, complaining of pain in her neck and knee.
