Deputies arrest 2011 child molest suspect

A man who allegedly molested a 12-year-old in 2011 was still in jail Tuesday night after being arrested Friday.

Jose Louis Soriano, 23, of Anderson, faces a charge of child molest, a Class A felony, and was still in Madison County Jail on $35,000 bond, according to jail records.

According to a probable cause affidavit of the incident, Soriano, 21 at the time, allegedly had a sexual relationship from May to June 2011 with a 12-year-old relative. Police learned of the allegations from the victim, who discovered she was pregnant in August 2011. She told detectives Soriano knew how old she was; he had been to her birthday parties.

The probable cause affidavit, which was produced by the Anderson Police Department, is dated Aug. 22, 2011. According to court records, a warrant for Soriano's arrest was issued June 27, 2012. Members of the victim's family told police they believed Soriano fled to Florida to stay with a friend.

The affidavit also indicated that police were attempting to obtain evidence to prove Soriano had impregnated the girl.

According to arrest log records, Soriano was arrested Friday near the intersection of Indiana 9 and Indiana 67 by Madison County sheriff's deputies.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Ron Richardson said he was looking into why Soriano had not been arrested sooner. He was unable to confirm whether Soriano had fled to Florida.

Court records indicate an order of protection and a no-contact order were filed against Soriano on Tuesday.
