Two-vehicle collision on Sunday injures 3

LAPEL — A two-vehicle accident Sunday hospitalized both drivers and a passenger.

The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. when a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by David Woods, 68, of Lapel pulled out in front of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Tyler Ozenbaugh, 25, of Elwood, police said.

According to Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson, Ozenbaugh was headed north on Indiana 13 near West County Road 10, and Woods was leaving his residential driveway and attempting to make a left turn to head north. A witness following the Jeep told police the Trailblazer started to pull out into the road, hesitated, then pulled out fully.

The Jeep's front bumper smashed into the fender well of the Trailblazer. The impact threw the Trailblazer off the road. According to Richardson, the collision disabled both vehicles and rendered them undrivable.

The most serious injuries were suffered by Woods, who sustained cuts and abrasions and complained of chest pain at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Riverside Hospital in Noblesville. His passenger, Patricia Woods, complained of chest pains and was also taken to Riverside Hospital in Noblesville.

Ozenbaugh, who complained of headaches and then passed out, was taken to Anderson Community Hospital by a family member. His passenger, Vranna Shively, complained of knee pain but wasn't hospitalized.
