Microchipping, nail clipping clinic Saturday

ANDERSON — As part of Kmart's "National Safety Weekend," the Madison County Humane Society will be microchipping and providing nail clipping for pets Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kmart, 2828 Broadway.

AHS choirs to host mattress sale

ANDERSON — Anderson High School choirs are hosting a mattress sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

Mattresses in all sizes and styles available are for purchase. Proceeds from sale will benefit the choirs.

Animal blessing Sunday at Camp Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD — Camp Chesterfield, along with several local animal welfare organizations, will join together Sunday to offer an animal blessing ceremony. The ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. in the camp's cathedral.

The ceremony will be conducted by Father Bruce Knox and the event is presented by the Rev. Patricia J. Kennedy. K-9 dogs of 9/11 will be honored as well at the two K-9 dogs who died in the line of duty here, Kilo and Magnum. The new K-9 dog, Hoss, will be honored as well.

RSVP to www.campchesterfield.net to assure that there will be enough supplies for all. All pets must be on a leash or in a crate.

Health Center to host produce giveaways

ANDERSON — Produce giveaways sponsored by the Madison County Community Health Center will be held on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1547 Ohio Ave., Anderson; Tuesday, 2 to 4 p.m., 1518 Main St., Elwood; and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, 315 S. Harrison St., Alexandria.

Area bands to entertain

ANDERSON — Local bands will enter this weekend at various locations.

— The Fender Alley Band will perform from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lodge 174, 1315 Meridian St.

— The Fields Brothers Band will perform tonight from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Atlanta Pub. On Saturday, they will entertain from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at the Hideway in Gas City.

    The fussing of 10-day-old Autumn Marie Sperry seemed to coincide with the beginning of the funeral service for her father, Jesse Sperry, whose lifeless body rested just a few feet away. More than 200 friends and family members gathered at Edgewood Baptist Church this afternoon to pay their respects to Jesse, who was killed April 6 in a traffic accident on West Indiana 32.
