ANDERSON, Ind. —
The Gospel Highlight Radio Broadcast is looking for volunteers to help with its 30th annual community Thanksgiving dinner.
“We want to keep the tradition going,” but organizers need help to do that, said organizer James Warner.
Warner said he needs volunteers in the days leading up to Thanksgiving to help make stuffing, unload food and set up tables and chairs. He needs volunteers on the day of the event to help with last-minute setup, serving and delivering to the sick and shut-ins. Warner said he also needs help with clean-up starting at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
“We’ll take as many (volunteers) as we can get,” he said. “We’ll take 150 or 200, if they’ll come.”
He said there are plans to feed at least 1,000 people, but will “feed folks until we run out.”
“This is totally a community thing,” Warner said.
Dinner will be between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Geater Community Center, 1611 Chase St. in Anderson.
To be on the serving line, a volunteer must be at least 16 years old.
Warner said donations are also appreciated, and can be mailed to Gospel Highlight at P.O. Box 3006 in Anderson, or 1221 W. 11th St.
To order a dinner, Warner asks people to call early. No orders will be accepted after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
However, if you miss that deadline, you’re still welcome to come to the center on Thanksgiving Day to dine-in or carryout. Warner will also be doing a live radio broadcast from the dinner on 1240 AM.
