The Urban League of Madison County Head Start program is now accepting applications for four year-old children for the 2008-09 school year. Head Start is a free preschool program that services children from low-income families.
Children who will be 4 years old on or before Aug. 1 and those 5-year-olds, who turn 5 after Aug. 1 and are not eligible for kindergarten, are eligible for Head Start.
Applications must be completed by parents or legal guardians at the Head Start office, 2010 Brentwood (formerly Morgan-Fenner Elementary School) in Anderson. Families are accepted into the program based on gross yearly income, number of household members and the completion of required forms. Preference will be given to children with special needs.
Applications are taken Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents should bring child’s birth certificate, income verification, insurance or Medicaid card, Social Security card, immunization record, food stamp card and, if employed, two most recent check stubs or current W2 wage and tax form.
